Arduino Hardware and Programming Workshop

Student helper delivered Arduino Workshop to 6, including a lecturer, a schoolteacher, and a corporate staff!
Arduino Hardware and Programming Workshop

On 20 April 2024, Makerspace@UM student helper Ming Kang conducted an Arduino workshop to 6 participants at Computer Lab, KPPI, UM. The participants included wide range of audience, including a physics lecturer, a school teacher, and a corporat staff.

Fundamental knowledge is important especially during ChatGPT era

Ming Kang stressed that with the ChatGPT era, students are less likely to think critically and just accept whatever info fed by ChatGPT. He said this is unhealthy. "ChatGPT will widen the gap between those who understand the fundamental, and those who don't, as people who understand the subject take ChatGPT as the assitant for more quality work.

Workshop focused on Arduino fundamental

This workshop focused more on the underlying working principle of Arduino Uno, including Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) leading to analogWrite, voltage divider circuit, diode current curve and so on.

Hope to have a workshop for intermediate in the future

Ming Kang has been conducting workshops for begineers in Arduino, ESP32 and 3D printing. He hope to challenge himself to go further and conduct a workshop for intermediate makers. For this he said: "Need to plan carefully and study a lot more to make sure participants fully utilise the workshop hours"

Project based learning

During the last quarter of the workshop, participants had chance to develop their own Fire Alarm System, using the skills learned in the morning. "Although we didn't manage to finish it, at least it gives participants a taste of the excitement of project development and troubleshooting process".
